The 41 Lumber Timeline


1925

1925

Edward A. Hamar and Albert W. Quandt purchased the Pryor Lumber Company, and it became the Hamar Quandt Company. It consisted of several large warehouses and a multi-purpose building, with a large band saw for resawing timbers for the local mines, a planer, a profiler, and shop to manufacture windows and doors.

1929

We opened a yard in Laurium to serve the north end of the Keweenaw Peninsula and the local copper mines.

1940

1940

We opened a yard in Ontonagon. This yard introduced the company to contracting, building the pilot mine shaft housing and twelve small houses for the White Pine Copper Mine. When copper prices declined in the 1960s, the yard was closed.

1975

1975

We opened a yard in Marquette and it was the first yard to be named 41 Lumber.

1976

1976

We rebuilt the Laurium yard, and company-wide, we became known as 41 Lumber.

1980

1980

We moved the company headquarters to Quinnesec, MI, where we opened a yard and a distribution center.

1985

1985

We moved the Houghton yard from the original Pryor location to our current location on US 41.

1991

1991

We purchased Ed's Building Supply in Escanaba.

We purchased Fall's Building Supply in Newberry and Munising Building Center in Munising.

2005

2005

We purchased the Delta Do-It Center in Escanaba and relocated our yard to its location on US 41.

2021

2021

We opened our Kitchen, Bath, and Design Center in downtown Iron Mountain.
